{"id":212,"date":"2007-03-07T10:21:21","date_gmt":"2007-03-07T10:21:21","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paulwmartin.ca\/blog\/?p=212"},"modified":"2011-07-29T16:01:49","modified_gmt":"2011-07-29T16:01:49","slug":"jean-baudrillard-1929-2007","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.paulwmartin.ca\/blog\/?p=212","title":{"rendered":"Jean Baudrillard 1929-2007"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\nI&#8217;ve not read anything close to all of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Baudrillard\">Jean Baudrillard<\/a>&#8216;s considerable oeuvre,  but I find it nearly impossible to teach almost any course without referring at some point to his work, in particular his notions of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.stanford.edu\/dept\/HPS\/Baudrillard\/Baudrillard_Simulacra.html\">simulacra<\/a> and hyperreality. Still feeling like a stranger in a strange land, I also find his various looks at the USA to be especially compelling.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2007\/03\/07\/books\/07baudrillard.html?ref=books\">news<\/a> of <a href=\"http:\/\/news.bbc.co.uk\/2\/hi\/europe\/6425389.stm\">his<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/passouline.blog.lemonde.fr\/2007\/03\/07\/pour-saluer-baudrillard\/\">death<\/a> yesterday saddened me, as it&#8217;s rare that we find such <a href=\"http:\/\/books.guardian.co.uk\/obituaries\/story\/0,,2028497,00.html?gusrc=rss&amp;feed=10\">an original thinker<\/a>, someone whose work is truly, as Le Figaro referred to it in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.lefigaro.fr\/france\/20070306.WWW000000430_jean_baudrillard_est_mort.html\">their headline<\/a> about his death, &#8220;inclassable.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve not read anything close to all of Jean Baudrillard&#8216;s considerable oeuvre, but I find it nearly impossible to teach almost any course without referring at some point to his work, in particular his notions of the simulacra and hyperreality.
