{"id":279,"date":"2007-08-13T16:48:30","date_gmt":"2007-08-13T16:48:30","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paulwmartin.ca\/blog\/?p=279"},"modified":"2011-07-29T16:01:39","modified_gmt":"2011-07-29T16:01:39","slug":"canadian-literature-in-the-news","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.paulwmartin.ca\/blog\/?p=279","title":{"rendered":"Canadian literature in the news"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\nA few things I&#8217;ve been meaning to blog about over the last few days as I settle back into work after a week off.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nI was saddened a few days back to hear of <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/arts\/books\/story\/2007\/08\/10\/margaret-avison-obit.html\">the death of Margaret Avison<\/a>, one of Canada&#8217;s great poets of the 20th century, I think. You can find a few of her poems online <a href=\"http:\/\/www.library.utoronto.ca\/canpoetry\/avison\/poems.htm\">here<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nOne of the books I&#8217;m looking forward to reading is <a href=\"http:\/\/www.williamgibsonbooks.com\/blog\/blog.asp\">William Gibson<\/a>&#8216;s <a href=\"http:\/\/us.penguingroup.com\/nf\/Book\/BookDisplay\/0,,9780399154300,00.html\">Spook Country<\/a>. There have been a number of articles about him and the new book over the last few weeks, but here&#8217;s a link to <a href=\"http:\/\/books.guardian.co.uk\/departments\/sciencefiction\/story\/0,,2146989,00.html?gusrc=rss&amp;feed=10\">one of the best<\/a> and to an <a href=\"http:\/\/trashotron.com\/agony\/news\/2007\/08-13-07.htm#081307\">audio interview<\/a> with him.<\/p>\n<p>Toronto&#8217;s Michael Redhill is one of thirteen writers on the long list for this year&#8217;s Man Booker Prize for Fiction.
