{"id":84,"date":"2006-02-23T10:33:29","date_gmt":"2006-02-23T10:33:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.paulwmartin.ca\/blog\/?p=84"},"modified":"2011-07-29T16:01:51","modified_gmt":"2011-07-29T16:01:51","slug":"more-on-itunes-u","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.paulwmartin.ca\/blog\/?p=84","title":{"rendered":"More on iTunes U"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\nWell, it sounds like universities are signing up for iTunes U in droves, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canada.com\/nationalpost\/news\/story.html?id=c6fcd15e-d1e7-4ec1-a8bc-5b8813ee08e4&amp;k=17553\">in Canada<\/a> as well as <a href=\"http:\/\/www.democratandchronicle.com\/apps\/pbcs.dll\/article?AID=\/20060220\/NEWS01\/602200322\/1002\/NEWS\">in the US<\/a>. Many people I talked to are enthused about the possibility, though many of us also have <em>some<\/em> reservations.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nMy colleague <a href=\"http:\/\/reparent.blog.uvm.edu\/\">Richard Parent<\/a> and I had an interesting chat the other day about whether or not universities will want us to lock up our content to make it exclusive to our students. I like the option of being able to have most content open to everyone and some closed to everyone but students in a particular course, but only so long as I am the sole person to decide which file is freely distributed and which is not.\n<\/p>\n<p>\nThe other concern many people have is Apple&#8217;s connection to all this. I&#8217;m an Apple fanatic, as most people know, so I am not all that bothered by this. But what if it were Dell, for instance, offering a solution that only synched automatically with their players?\n<\/p>\n<p>\nNo word on when (I won&#8217;t say &#8220;if&#8221;) UVM will be signing up.
