The Smiths meet academe

I’m struggling with a nasty case of the flu but couldn’t resist directing you to this great story at cbc.ca about an academic conference on the Smiths, one of my favourite bands of all time. Now I love The Smiths more than most people I know, but I don’t think I could enter into a discussion about Morrissey in the creepy way that some of these people did. Still, it’s a great article on how many of us still can’t leave The Smiths’ music behind.

i was really suprised when i saw that you posted this article but me being a huge smiths/morrisey fan couldn’t resist reading this article. i found it very amuzing especially when they compared the smith following by angst teens with billy joel and iron maiden music. this is a very interesting conference but with too much emphasis on the hairstyles and glasses that are i guess key to morrisey? and i am glad that there are people willing to keep this amazing group alive and actually have acedemic discussions of their albums and songs.
