Teaching

I’ve got a busy year of teaching ahead. Starting on June 23, I’ll be teaching a summer class at Thompson Rivers University and then in the fall I’ll be teaching an evening section of English 102 at MacEwan University. In the meantime, I’ll be working diligently to develop a new version of my online course “Hero of the Play: Hockey and Canadian Literature.” I’ve got some fun ideas in store for that class.

Given that I’m already busy enough with my full-time job as the Faculty Development Coordinator for MacEwan University, you might wonder why I’d be spending my spare time (and my summer holidays this year!) teaching and developing a new online course. Teaching has always been a vital part of what I do as a faculty member. While I still get plenty of chances to design and deliver learning opportunities for faculty members at MacEwan University and other schools, my favourite place to be remains the classroom working with enthusiastic undergraduate and graduate students. I’ve had the pleasure of working with wonderful students and colleagues at the University of Western Ontario (now known as Western University) the University of Alberta, Mount Royal College (now Mount Royal University), University of Vermont, and MacEwan University and those experiences have taught me everything I know about teaching. If I want to continue to grow as a teacher and learner, it’s imperative that I continue to teach and that I share those experiences with those I’m working to help improve their own teaching.
